Ford Pro Trailer Backup Assist

Maneuvering your trailer is easier than ever with Ford Pro Trailer Backup Assist™. This available technology lets you use an intuitive knob to indicate which direction you want your trailer to go while the vehicle handles the steering. To simplify your experience when towing heavy cargo, come talk to the team at Blaise Alexander Ford of Lewisburg.

How to Use Ford Pro Trailer Backup Assist™

Before using Pro Trailer Backup Assist™ with a trailer for the first time, you'll need to complete an initial setup and calibration process. Depending on your Ford model and system version, this can include entering information about the trailer and following the prompts on the center display. Once configured, the trailer can be saved to your vehicle for future use.

Ford Pro Trailer Backup Assist™ lets you add multiple trailers to your profile—so don’t worry if you have more than one option when you tow. To use the system, put your vehicle in Park and press the “Pro Trailer” button on your dashboard. The screen will prompt you to select the trailer that’s currently hitched up.

Once the system is active and your vehicle is in Reverse, turn the Pro Trailer Backup Assist™ knob in the direction you want the trailer to go. The vehicle automatically controls the steering wheel while you remain responsible for the accelerator and brakes. Keep watching your surroundings and use the available camera views and guidelines on the center display as you maneuver.

Depending on your Ford model and equipment, available Trailer Reverse Guidance can provide additional camera views and visual guidelines to help you monitor the truck and trailer as you back up.

Models that Come With Ford Pro Trailer Backup Assist™

Pro Trailer Backup Assist™ is available on several Ford vehicles designed with towing in mind. Depending on trim and configuration, you can find the technology on models such as the Ford F-150, Ford Super Duty, Ford Maverick, and Ford Expedition. Availability varies by model and equipment, so our team can help you find a vehicle equipped with the towing technology you want.

Pro Trailer Backup Assist™ vs. Pro Trailer Hitch Assist™

Although their names sound similar, Pro Trailer Backup Assist™ and Pro Trailer Hitch Assist™ help with different parts of the towing process. Available Pro Trailer Hitch Assist™ can help align your vehicle's hitch ball with a conventional trailer coupler, controlling steering, acceleration, and braking during the maneuver. Once you're hitched up, Pro Trailer Backup Assist™ helps you back the trailer where you want it to go by controlling the vehicle's steering while you manage the accelerator and brakes.
